Protest the Mexican-American War!

i have done some studies with the dps output of certain speed staves ... everyone claims that the overall damage output is the same of all weapons, but this is not necesarily true. if you graph the dps (x=time, y=damage) you will notice that the only linear function you can obtain is when the victim suffers continuous damage. all weapons with speed (every weapon) graphed are step funtions (on a 5.5spd staff the overall damage output is the same for the 5.5seconds after a hit is landed).

however, when compared to the simulated 'constant' damage, one will notice that weapons with speed always fall above the 'constant' damage. when i compared a 5.5spd staff and a 4.2 speed, the 5.5spd (with spd mods such as haste, quickness) more often fell above the 4.2 in damage as opposed to the 5.5spd.

however, faster speed weapons have additional utility when compared to slow speed ones(such as breaking through blade-turn). also, the more often you hit, procs have a certain percentage of going off, so faster speed means that there will be more chances that the proc will go off. another reason wouuld be an advantage for hybrids. i am a friar, and if i am in battle and need to jump out real quick to heal an ally, it takes longer to be able to cast the heal if i am weilding a slower staff.

slower speed weapons also have a utility advantage as well, because reactive procs have a certain percentage of hit-to-going off chance, so the less often you hit the target, the less chance you have of their reactive procs going of on you. also, there's the 'first-hit' idea. your first hit on somebody has no speed penalties apllied beforehand, so for a slower weapon, the damage is always higher than fast weapon at the beginning.

so, in conclusion, each speed has it's advantages. if you are on a server in which the enemy realm is dominated by pbt, you should probably use (or at least carry a spare to switch to) a faster weapon. if rvr warfare is often quick, killing the enemy quickly is the key -- this is when i would prefer to use a slow weapon, to acheive maximum damage.
